Review - New Moon

The Twilight Saga: New Moon
Review by Louise Poole

The highly anticipated sequel to Twilight – New Moon was released in cinemas at 12:01 on Thursday 19th November. At our cinema, audiences armed with popcorn and a big can of energy drink made no secret of their love of New Moon and The Twilight Saga. For every button Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) unhooked on his shirt and each of Jacob Black’s (Taylor Lautner) signature shirt rip women throughout the audience recorded their resounding sigh of approval.
And I too, I must admit, also approved and believe other fans of the Twilight Saga won’t be disappointed in the New Moon instalment.
New Moon continues a few weeks/months after Twilight’s conclusion. It opens on Bella Swan’s (Kristen Stewart) 18th birthday when a seemingly innocent paper cut in a room full of vampires escalates into the catalyst for Edward breaking up with and leaving Bella. When Edward leaves, Bella sinks into a deep depression and it is only through her friendship with Jacob Black that her grey cloud begins to lift. Except Jacob has a pretty big secret….
Yes, it is a film about Vampires. Yes, it is a film about Werewolves. But at its rawest core The Twilight Saga is a love story – Edward Cullen, a modern day Mr. Darcy of sorts. While the first film told the story of Edward and Bella’s love, New Moon at its heart is a story about what happens when the person who once promised to love you forever seems to change their mind. It is the excruciating pain that we have all, at one stage, felt – Numbness, desperation and angst; the loneliness of coming home to an empty house; days that blur into weeks and months; and our withdrawal from friends, family and the rest world when our heart has been broken.

Empathy and understanding for Bella’s deep depression, the intricacies of her relationship with Jacob, and the choice she has to make when you truly love two men came easier after reading the original Stephanie Meyer New Moon novel, but the film didn’t disappoint and the filmmakers can be forgiven because it will always be impossible for the big screen to compete with words which fuel your deepest imagination.

New Moon combines a cast of exceptionally good looking young actors, with amazing cinematography and a killer soundtrack. And watch out for the cameo of a grown up Dakota Fanning – almost unrecognisable and completely different from the child-like roles she usually plays.

New Moon – Definitely a film for women of all ages!

My tip? Make sure you watch the original film Twilight first or you will struggle to follow the plot. And when you fall in love with the first film, give Stephanie Meyer’s books a go, and join the millions of fans who read and re-read their copies daily.

How to speed-read the easy way

Not everyone has the leisure of reading the whole day. Sometimes, you only have a few hours to finish one or two books. If you’re one of those people, then you need to learn speed reading tips to help you get more done in a shorter amount of time.

You might be wondering just what these tips are and how effective they can be when it comes to actually comprehending the text. Well, wonder no more.

The following speed reading tips will not only help you read faster, they will also ensure your full understanding of what the text is all about.

Speed Reading Tip # 1: Skim The Text First.

One very popular and effective tip is skimming the whole page or text. Giving the text a once over gives you more or less an idea of what the writer is talking about.

Sometimes, it helps to understand the main idea first before delving into the details. This way, you won’t have to reread a sentence twice over, just because you didn’t get it the first time.

Try reading the last sentence of the material as well. This helps you get to the writer’s main point without wasting precious time,

Speed Reading Tip # 2: Get Comfortable When Reading.

Sometimes, we waste time by shifting in our seat every so often. Long-time readers already know what their favorite reading position is. It’s different for everybody.

Some like to read with their back straight. Others like to read stomach down on the bed. You’ll have to discover which position is best for you. I would suggest sitting down on a comfortable chair and propping your book on a desk.

Speed Reading Tip # 3: Get Rid of Distractions.

If you want to increase your reading speed, you need to find a place where you won't be easily distracted. Why do you think libraries have "silence" signs all over?

That said, you won't be able to read as fast as you really can when you're in the living room and your little brother is there watching cartoons. Notice how many times you end up reading one line over and over again.

Find a good spot. Perhaps in your private room where you can have all the peace and quiet you need.

Speed reading tips are often overlooked by both students and professionals alike. However, once you realize just how much you can get done in a considerably shorter amount of time, you’ll be applying these tips every chance you get.

Scar Removal with Natural Products

It's a little depressing, how so many people try and fail to remove their scars. What these people generally don't realize is that, while scar removal is very much possible, it really isn't as simple as rubbing some kind of hi-tech magic cream and hoping for overnight results. That's just not how scar removal works, and if you really want to do something about your scars, you should strive for a betteer perspective. This article will provide you with some basic information on what you need to get started on a real solution to get rid of your scars.

Choosing the right product to rub on your scars in only 1 out of three necessary steps to removing scars. Having chosen the right product, you'll also need to apply it in the right manner, as well as making some changes in your diet and lifestyle that will hasten the healing process. Also, there are many natural products that work just as good (if not better) than commercial scar fading creams... you just need to know which products work best for different types of scars. There are dozens of wonderful scar healing products that you can find in your grocery, such as aloe vera and honey.

Once you know the best product for topical use, you also need to learn about some techniques that will effectively help break up the scar tissue. It can be something as simple as specific massage techniques, or something more elaborate, like silicone sheets. Once again, it depends on the type of scars you're dealing with. Finally, you need to drink lots of water and increase your Vitamin E intake. Doing so, your body's regenerative abilities will get boosted up, and consequently so will the scar removal process.

The Hottest Male Celebrity Tattoos

They've always been the sign of a bad boy... but our list of the hottest male celebrity tattoos shows that even the good boys can look just a little bit bad too!

50cent-back-tattoo.jpg
Old Fiddy Cent makes the top of the list for one reason... the body those tattoos are on. Seriously, does this guy have enough time for singing with all the working out he must do? Our only gripe about his tatts is that they are a little... well... self promoting to say the least!

vin-diesel.jpg
Alright, we're seeing a theme here. Maybe it's not the tatts. It's the bodies! The only problem here is that Vin Diesel's tatts in the movie XXX weren't real! They were henna tattoos only. In fact, Vin hasn't got a single tattoo on him in real life!

mike-tyson-tattoo.jpg
The bravery award definitely goes to ex-boxer Mike Tyson. It takes guts to tattoo your face. But when you're Mike Tyson, who exactly is going to give you grief about your tattoo?

keith-urbans-tattoo.jpg
The first of our nice boys to sport ink is Keith Urban. A nice eagle on his forearm and a little bit of writing is very Keith... not too overstated.

mickey-rourke66.jpg
Now this is obviously not a recent photo of Mickey... but he did once set hearts a-flutter! And he was one of those 80s stars that did sport tattoos ahead of the trend. Several bad plastic surgery experiences later it's not really the tatts we're gawking at any more...

nick-lachey.jpg
Jessica Simpson's ex and one-time boybander Nick Lachey is a good looking guy at the best of times. But with his tattoo of his old boy band, you have to wonder whether he might have outgrown this one!

lenny-kravitz-01.jpg
We don't seem to hear too much about Kravitz these days... but he's still looking hot... and still has a love of body modification going on. That shoulder tattoo has been there quite some time and is still looking great.

peter-andre07.jpg
Peter Andre in his younger days was a picture of health, vitality and tattoo goodness. Fast forward 15 years and his life isn't the squeaky clean slate it once was, but this hunk still makes a tattoo look good!

ricky-martin.jpg
Who cares if he's gay or not? He's hot! And Ricky Martin loves his tattoos... and seems to get more and more of them every time we see a new pic of him. Looking good Rickster!

pete-wentz2.jpg
Fall Out Boy Pete Wentz has always had quite the female following and although he doesn't have quite the covering of the Good Charlotte boys, he has an impressive set of ink!

jamie-foxx.jpg
Actor. Singer. Ink fan. Yes, Jamie Foxx is one hot man with a hot set of tattoos to boot. But that one on his head must have HURT!

Australia's Most Haunted Places

Although not all these places are open to the public... some are... and if the moon shines just right, you never know... you might get a big fright! Check out this list of Australia's Most Haunted places! And even worst than the hauntings are some of the stories behind them!

Canberra - Duffy - There is a creek
around, with a house right next to it or on top of it, where a little
girl roams around. The former owners had visits from the little girl.
She died in the late 1800's/early 1900's, by drowning in the creek.

Canberra - Kambah Wool
Shed - Used in the 1900's as a convict prison,
where executions also took place. Many believe that there are hundreds
of spirits floating around in the wool shed. There have also been
reports from nearby houses that screams have been heard from the shed.
There was a report of a man finding blood in a corner of the shed.

Canberra - Mount Cotton - There is a place called Spook Hill. Turn your car off
in the middle of the hill, hop out and it rolls up all by itself.

New South Wales - Armidale
- Armidale High School Auditorium - When in the
auditorium alone, you can hear a faint evil laugh, like it’s trying to
scare you. Occasionally, things will be hurled across the stage.

New South Wales - Asquith
- Asquith Girls High School - At night, strange
noises are heard near the hall and the oval of the school. People
who've heard these noises say that they heard screams of teenage girls
or younger girls. Various people say that they've been hit or nearly
hit by large objects from off the top of the roof, such as bricks and
roof tiles.

New South Wales - Bathurst
- Machatti Park - When there is no one around,
screams have been heard. - February 2007
Update/Additional Information: Machatti Park - The park is behind the
local courthouse. The courthouse and the park were part of the jail in
the old days(the jail is now long gone). Somewhere on the grounds of
the park was used for the hanging of inmates. There is a lot of bad
history there. New South Wales - Camberwell
- Siena College - Many students and teachers
have seen shadows of people who are not there, and white ghostly shapes
in broad daylight. All of this has happened in the school’s chapel. It
is believed to be haunted by one of the nuns that used to live there.

New South Wales - Cootamundra
- Monte Cristo Homestead - Used to be owned by
wealthy man. In the Boy's Room, an evil presence is felt. Children

New South Wales - East Hills - Lucas Road/Henry Lawson Drive Creek - The
road leads to the Georges River. It is haunted by an old local
fisherman. He was a lonely man, whose only companion was his blue
heeler dog. He kept to himself and liked to avoid contact with people.
He would regularly be seen scavenging for bait in the creek. Then he
would mysteriously disappear and wasn't seen again. Many locals have
reported that they have seen the old man around the creek, especially
with the occurrence of a full moon. Many residents nearby have reported
hearing a dog howling at night in the creek. But no dog is seen.

North New South Whales - the highway to Byron Bay - back in the 70's to the
mid 90s until they built a new highway. People used to report about a
young woman dressed in the hippy fashion of the 70s standing on the
side of the road, late at night, hitching. They would pick her up and
she would just direct them down the road. Of course the girl would
disappear. No one knows who this young woman is and why she is hitching
the road. Witness even report picking her up to take her where she
needs to go, and she disappears.

New South Wales - Junee -
Monte Cristo - Australia's most haunted house.
Hundreds of sightings and strange occurrences happen in and around this
house every year. Visitors tell of cold spots, voices, and not being
able to ascend certain stairs due to some unexplained force. The

www.montecristo.com
It has
also been the focus of some Australian television programs. This is a
beautiful homestead with a not so beautiful past.

New South Wales - Kurri
Kurri - Richmond Vale Rail & Mining Museum - Richmond
Main is an abandoned mine which operated from 1910 to 1967. Today, it
is a steam railway and mining museum. During its operating life, there
were 54 lives lost from accidents and mistakes. In 1922, a mine shaft
which can travel 300 feet underground, and is preserved today, was
taking five miners down to the bottom of the pit. Its cable snapped
when the shaft cage was still 200 feet from the ground. All the miners
lost there lives (the records of the incident still exist). Today,
about five out of ten people who visit the museum, and have had a look
at the abandon shaft, say that they feel very sad. Some say they can
hear the sounds of people yelling out, as if they are falling. Also,
strange things happen to some of the steam locomotives preserved at the
museum. Some of the drivers have said that various controls on the
loco's N o. 30 go haywire. A former South Maitland Railway's loco is
the engine that has strange things done to it. The throttle will be
fully open for the locomotive to move, when the drivers have left it in
the closed position. There are also incidents where there the driver,
the fireman or both are in the cab, and the engine's whistle will be
pulled right in front of them, without either of them pulling the
whistle cord. It is said to be a sprit of the former manager, Mr. John
Brown, who died there in 1930 (cause of death not known). He has been
seen early in the morning, firing off the steam loco for a days run.
Two museum members have seen him, and they refused to ever work in that
area ever again. Mr. Brown is seen on the third Sunday of each month,
five out of ten times.

New South Wales - Lismore
- Lions Park - There used to be a set of swings
that used to move, on windless nights, by themselves and stop with a

back and killed the child. His ghost still plays on the swing until the
local council got rid of them.

New South Wales - Lochinvar

to get in the car anyway possible. There are stories of people's
windscreens being smashed by her. Another story is that once a young
girl was found beneath a cattle grid. She had died not long before she

to make a payment at the counter. The counterperson said that there
were ten people inside the room, and demanded them to pay for the ten

they realize it wasn’t a joke anymore and they had to escape so they
spilt up to look for a way out. The next day they were found dead. No

environment. There are many rumors regarding hauntings and occurrences
in the cemetery, however most are just that - rumors. There is a
definite vibe to the place. There is very strong energy there, and
sometimes strong feelings of sadness can be picked up on. The only
commonplace rumor of any violent or physical manifestations in the
cemetery, involves one of the crypts right near the main entrance.
People have claimed to hear objects being thrown around and voices
yelling. Otherwise, it is simply a beautiful cemetery, that has
unfortunately become victim of vandalism and ridiculous stories. It is
just a resting place with strong energies and emotions tied to it. It
is believed that the gravestone just befor e your car starts to move up
the hill, is owned by a child that has been hit by a car and died.

is home to many sightings and events of a scary kind. Many customers
swear they have seen a person in one certain spot in the building, when
there was never anyone there. The witnesses description of what they
saw was always the same. Also many objects fall by themselves. People
see a lady in an old-style black dress in the backrooms, near the
kitchen area. Many publicans have been concerned that someone was
trespassing into the private area of the hotel, only to find there is
no one there! There is one photo that remains of the old hotel, with
five people sitting outside in front of the establishment. The
witnesses description of the lady in the black dress matches perfectly
with one of the ladies in the photo. Along with this, there are also
voices heard calling out people’s names, convincing even the toughest

in the top tower of the distillery. While walking past the Vinegar

over 150 ye ars. During the tours, you can go into Oscar’s retreat,
which is so small it can only fit a maximum of 4-5 people who even have
to duck their heads to walk in. In the Mausoleum of the Seppelt family,
you can see eerie bloodstains on the walls, which are still wet on the
anniversary of their deaths. Due to this, the Mausoleum was locked and
bolted shut in the late 20th century. Moans and whispering can be heard
in the dinning hall, which you can hire for functions. Staff and
tourists in the garden have heard rifle shots. These ghost tours are
not for the faint hearted, and no tapes, projectors or computers are
used at all. Also not recommended for children under ten years old.
Walk through the gardens as you hear stories of near death experiences
and listen to the screams and shots through the air. Many tourists have
felt cold spots, and being pushed by invisible forces. Others have told
of feeling depressed near the gardens, and even being frightened into
screaming fits.

Things your baby DOESN'T need

While you are out and about buying baby gear it is fun, but you are also an easy target for retailers. Everybody wants their baby to have the best, safest, and cutest items. But babies do not require a whole lot of things, and there are many that need to be avoided.

Fancy crib sets need to be avoided because they are not safe. It is advised to remove all pillows, bumper pads, comforters, stuffed toys, and anything that is soft from the baby's crib. It is fun to decorate the nursery but do not add unneeded items to the crib. Babies don't need all this stuff and it become dangerous when there's too much in there because every one of these things can become smothering hazards.

When you are buying clothes for baby be sure that it will be comfortable. Remember that there are many high priced uncomfortable baby clothes. Any newborn is more comfortable in clothing that is not tight and has no elastic. Clothing should be made of cotton because it can breathe and it is soft not like any synthetic materials that also happen to be largely not fire-retardant.

In my opinion a changing table and a wipes warmer are wasted money. When changing any baby. It is more convenient to use a blanket spread out on the floor. It is also safer for when the baby starts to roll. The wipe warmer can dry out the wipes and you need to change the baby where it is.

Physical therapists and paediatricians both do not recommend that you put your baby into a baby walker. You will feel that it is good for your baby but the use of a walker will stop the natural development of your baby and they are also connected to many injuries every year in Australia... and thousands of them overseas.

Another thing that is not needed for your baby is special baby laundry soap. The only difference between your laundry soap and baby laundry soap is fragrance. If there is a reaction then try using less soap or just hot water. Basically most baby products are made to smell like talkvum powder. And that is only because we tend ot associate that smell with clean and happy babies. It's a scam. Just use your laundry detergent. Smells in products can actually cause any number of problems with their skin.

How to tell your new love about your ex

Can you be 100% sincere with your lover related to your ex-relationships? Have you ever asked yourself if sincerity is the most important thing when it comes to a commitment? At some moment or another, couples start talking about their previous engagements. This is a chance to remember what was in the past but is it necessary to reveal all details? As an example, must a woman/man tell everything about his/her ex?
  1. There is 'yes' and 'no' as possible answers for this question

Yes, you should be sincere with your new partner, analyze what was good or not so good in your previous relationships. Such discussions will build a felling of trust and mutual understanding.

2. Don't let him/her know you regret not being together with your ex-boyfriend/girlfriend anymore

Your lover can understand you regret those times and you are not happy with what you have at the moment. Don't be too much interested in the past if you want a future together. What happened before meeting your present lover should stay in the past.

3. Don't tell your lover you had too many partners, let's say more than 10

It's better to keep this a secret. As an example, a woman with lots of ex-boyfriends does not make a good impression, the same as a man who had many ex-girlfriends. Saying the whole truth sometimes cannot be a good idea, it can ruin a relationship. So, think twice before saying something about your past.

A garden salad that doesn't taste like garden salad

Garden salad recipes abound. This one is my favorite and comes from one of my all-time favourite cookbooks -- Looneyspoons, a low-fat Canadian cookbook by Janet and Greta Podleski.

This garden salad recipe is special because it mixes many fresh vegetables including a variety of lettuce, radicchio, sprouts, carrot, onion and more together with a tangy vinaigrette dressing and seasoned croutons. It creates a "mouthwatering, colorful salad" that is not packed full of fat like so many salad dressings are. It is a perfect choice for entertaining dinners or for enjoying at home.

On this page you will find the recipe for the garden salad, the recipe for the low-fat vinaigrette dressing and the recipe for low-fat homemade croutons. It's a delicious combination; I hope you enjoy it!
Ingredients:

5 cups shredded or torn lettuce -- your choice, romaine, green leaf or mixed
1 cup chopped radicchio
1 cup alfalfa sprouts
1 cup grated carrot
1 small red onion sliced thinly into rings
8 cherry tomatoes cut into halves
24 thin slices of English cucumber (no need to peel it)
1 cup of Seasoned Croutons (recipe follows)
Tangy Vinaigrette Dressing (recipe follows)

If you have your ingredients assembled as discussed in the ingredient list, you have already done most of the work. The Looneyspoons cookbook recommends dividing the ingredients evenly onto four serving plates, drizzling the salad dressing over the salads and serving immediately.

Since I usually make this salad for dinners with friends, I usually prepare the ingredients and mix the lettuce, radicchio, sprouts, carrots and onions together in my serving bowl. Then I put the cherry tomatoes and the cucumber slices in a second small container and the croutons in a third. When it is time to eat the salad, I throw everything into thebowl, add the dressing and mix.

This salad really is delicious. The recipe always wins rave reviews.

Serves 4 people.

Tasty Dressing Recipe:

3 tablespoons of red wine vinegar
3 tablespoons of apple juice
2 teaspoons of olive oil
1 clove garlic, minced
1 teaspoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon of dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon of oregano (dried)
1/8 teaspoon of black pepper

Mix them all together in a bowl or salad dressing shaker and serve at room temperature.

Seasoned Croutons Recipe:

1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon Parmesan cheese
3 cups cubed fresh bread
Olive-oil flavored cooking spray

Mix the dry ingredients well and then put them into a large plastic freezer bag. Spray the bread cubes lightly with the cooking spray, put the cubes into the bag and shake. Put the bread cubes on a baking sheet and bake until croutons are crisp and golden or about 10 to 15 minutes. Different breads, of course, will take different times.

Store them in a container for up to 1 week...or eat them right away!

Makes 3 cups.
